Quiet time with Green Tea

It was just getting light this morning at 6:45 am when I slid back the sliding doors to our lanai and ventured out. I had the cup of green tea in one hand and the newspaper in the other. I settled down in my favorite chair and just relaxed. A little fog was drifting by but otherwise it was perfectly quiet and calm. The sun did not yet break through the morning fog so it was too dark to read.

Sitting quietly I discovered I was not alone. Three tiny finches were sharing the yard space and gently flitting up and down the Hibiscus trees gathering breakfast. They are so tiny but seem to do a good job clearing our trees of tiny bugs.

In the still of the morning you can hear and see the earth waking up. Around here the mocking birds are king but this year there seems to be fewer. Blue Jays wake up everything with their loud call and there are many of them in the nearby trees. Geckos cling to the pool screen ready to pounce on any passing bug. They have to be careful as they make a good meal for even small birds. Their quickness usually gets them out of trouble but when they are trapped they have the ability to break away from their tail and escape. A new tail grows back in a relatively quick time.

It is getting brighter now and I will read the News-Press and become informed about all the problems of the world. For the past half hour I was completely unaware of the rest of the world as our little back yard provides us with a safety net against the ugly reality posted every day through our media.
