We drive a little slower than our kids as they seem to always be in a rush. We had a leisurely drive past Barrie and into the cottage country.Half tons pulling boats, half tons pulling trailers and vans jammed packed with kids and bags of food and what not passed us like we were stopped. We finally reached Parry Sound district, a place where I once knew well as I lived and taught there for some years at a time that seemed like an age ago.
We drove off the main highway and drove for a dozen miles on a secondary road that was fine and finally entered the real cottage road which was a dirt road which reminded me of my youth . We arrived at the cottage and was greeted with the humming of mosquitoes. I don't mind these little fellows but Theresa really hates them. We unpack and with the help of Peter and Lynda scamper down the path to a beautiful new world.
A view from every angle and a lake that was as nice as you can imagine. A new deck last year set the stage for our visit and what a stage it was.Beautiful workmanship from some local carpenters gave the cottage the setting you can only dream of and we immediately realized that in this case the journey was not half of the experience. The setting into the hill and huge trees embracing the rustic cottage was worth the journey and more.
We experienced some quality hours in this setting and while enjoying the smorgasbord of nature had conversations with our kids that were enhanced by Mother Nature filling in with the background of birds singing and chipmunks doing what they do best...clowning around.
Time went quickly and as Theresa and I went to sleep that night we remarked that we could not hear a sound...something we never experience back home in the city . It was a great time for us and a realization that just how our city environment has eroded our lives through sound and light.
